I have never had black mildew spots, but can report that Ultrasuede washes like a dream. It does not shrink, all stains and marks I have had (including biro) come off easily. It is colourfast and comes up looking like new. I soak our settee covers in Vanish for colours (also known as Oxyclean or Napisan), rinse well and line dry. Mildew may well wash out easily also.

If you need to spot clean, vinegar works well on mildew and is a mild cleaner (test on a bit of fabric not usually visible first). Bleach is likely to damage the fabric.

It's not tiny little black dots is it? If so it may not be mildew

If it's tinny little black dots, that is what spider droppings look like. Mildew isn't tiny dots

Re: Cleaning Ultrasuede

We have fawn colored ultrasude new just 3 years ago..black spots and streaks have begun appearing on a couple of our sections..they are impervious to any cleaner and it's driving me nuts...we tried alcohol ..baking soda .vinager and now oxyclean..no luck the stains seem to be spreading and we for sure have not spilled anything on the sections that are staining..i can't believe we will have to toss these perfectly good sections of seat cushions only 4 years old and albeit for these stains in perfect condition. Help

Re: Cleaning Ultrasuede

Might try a very mild peroxide solution (teaspoon per quart) with a drop or two of dawn and rubbing alcohol

@discovery:

Try a solution of clove oil in water. Use one quarter teaspoon per liter. I have not used this myself: however, it was recommended by a friend. The clove oil is supposed to penetrate the mildew spores, therefore stop it spreading. It may not clean all the spots off, but should stop more forming.

Good luck with it, it is a disheartening problem to have. Let us know what works.
