I know this isnt food provisioning but we are planning to live aboard soon and I am curious what soaps, shampoos, lotions etc...are acceptable without going pricey organic stuff. Trying regular liquid Ivory right now for hair and body but it seems a bit drying.

I like Dr. Bronner's Peppermint (liquid) soap. Have used it for many years.

I bought a gallon ($30, online) and use it for hair, skin, showers, etc. Much cheaper when you buy the gallon (not the small bottles).

Nice clean scent. Decanted to smaller pump bottles. I found it did not take much, usually just one or two pumps to do what was needed, use a loofah type scrubber or cloth or plastic "puff ball" to retain and make sudsy soapy wash.

Other scents are Almond and Eucalyptus and Citrus and Rose and etc. …

Agreed! I like the peppermint and my wife likes the lavender.

It is a different kind of soap, not a detergent. I used it with my hair and don't recall ever thinking it caused dryness, unlike some cheap shampoos. . More like "silky clean" and very pleasant scent.

Try it first. I really like Dr. Bronners. Have used it for years camping. It works well with cold water, and like the posters said, it only takes a little bit. However, be aware that some body parts find it somewhat more than refreshing - the peppermint at least. I have a peppermint/hemp one and it is to me.

Dr Bronners is made with coconut oil. It lathers in salt water and cold water and rinses clean. From a girl perspective, it's fine for hair since you really only need to clean the scalp. I have very long hip length hair and I use it when not at home. The trick is to use just a little to clean your head. The rest of your hair gets clean with the little bit of suds in the rinse. I like the lavender too. Ps rub a very small amount of coconut oil on your hair ends instead of using conditioner. Use it before you wash your hair. Works very well .

Old Spice (and others, but I use the old spice product), has a Hair and Body wash, so you don't need to carry two different products to the shower at the same time. Its pretty good.

I really like Sea Savon for both bathing and washing my hair. But it's pricey relative to Dr. Bronner's.

If I'm ever really greasy all over from sweat/sunscreen/whatever, I like to bathe using Joy or Dawn.

Also, Johnson's baby shampoo works well in salt water. Can be used for hair or body wash.

prell shampoo can be used with salt water shower and you will come out silky smooth, I use it as a body wash on 4 transpacs along with baby wipes all over, they seal in the moisture after the shower

My favorite is Suave shampoo/body wash. It is inexpensive and available at Walmart and many other stores. Comes in several different flavors. Also good for
shaving.

We use old-fashioned lye soap (it's not harsh) for cleaning bodies, washing hair, washing clothes in our laundry bucket, cleaning floors and just about anything else that needs cleaning. Agreed! I use Dr. Bonner's land-side daily even. The Citrus is great... Literally, your skin is Squeeky Clean after a shower with it. Good for the Environment/Sea also if you are showering on deck as it's all natural & organic.
