any kind you like works. The beans are rich but not a ton of flavor,
same with the chicken. For me the best combination is that big yellow Mexican made bottle, Velencia. And sharp chedar. Used every kind of cheese, provalone is good also

Re: 1001 Things To Do With Canned Meats

Does anyone " can" their own meat?

I do and I thought that was what this thread was about. I didn't even think of Spam!

I find the normal size Ball jar will make 3 - 4 meals. My biggest problem is I get sick of a dish before I get rid of it.

CANNED FOODS MAKE EXCELLENT BALLAST.
line bilges with cans and almost forget about it as you may never use the canned foods.

Re: 1001 Things To Do With Canned Meats

I can meat in pint and half pint jars. No salt, fat, bones, skin, chemicals. Lots of variety in meats and each one can be made up a dozen ways depending on what, if any, fresh ingredients are available. I'm a poor-to-impossible spear fisher and troll only when underway, so canned seafood is a good keeper and good investment. I have a lot of respect for cookbooks from Canadian publisher Robert Rose. A Rose cookbook offering tons of great ideas for canned fish and seafood is http://amzn.to/1crsb1F

Fast Tuna (one of my favorites for when I don't want to cook but want something with taste and texture)

Ingredient list:

Tuna fish (I use foil packages)
Fresh scallions (green onions -- I grow my own)
Lentil sprouts (another thing I grow aboard)
Mayonnaise or salad dressing (whichever is handiest)

Mix ingredients together and voila:

It's not fancy however it is tasty. I've substituted other meats (ham, pork, etc.) and found it equally refreshing. The sprouts add texture as do the scallions -- bland foods are not my thing.

Enjoy!
