Thanks to all the instructors and members of the CPS who care enough to teach what they know. The
training works and paid off for my wife and I when we were caught in a squall yesterday. I’m proud to be a CPS
member and can’t say enough how much I appreciate these volunteers for sharing their knowledge and experience.
Thanks to all the Canadian and American Coast guards, all the auxiliaries and
marine police units around
Lake Ontario. Thankfully we didn’t need to call, but we heard people all around us calling in need of help. Thanks for your
service.
Thanks to all the former employees of Canadian Sailcraft. You did a great job. You built strong safe
boats that are still getting people through some tough spots. They’re beautiful and sweet sailers too.
Lessons learned; make the 90 degree turn to the closest port and get to
safety. The port 15 miles closer to home is too far away. Make sure all the crew knows what to expect. Get ready early. Better to be in your
weather gear">foul
weather gear and not need it than be drenched to the skin in the rain and spray wishing you had your foulies on. We went from slight chop to 4 – 5 foot or bigger waves and blinding rain in the blink of an eye. Having a ditch bag is not silly. Get it ready. Do it early.
Stay safe.
