Re: Sailing "blind" across the North Atlantic

Military drones do not fly in the national aerospace system, only in prohibited areas or supposed to be anyway, they are not supposed to mix with manned civilian aircraft.

Re: Sailing "blind" across the North Atlantic

Lookup Liquidrobotics company (LRI), they have been running autonomous boats with solar and wave power across most of the oceans for the last few years. They have a website that shows their tracks and operations. They use AIS receivers for situational awareness and Iridium for C2. Nice product with a great record, lost one or two in many million miles at sea, much in coastal areas.
