That makes the 3rd reef very deep, and it is what we have, might even actually be slightly under 50%.

If one is closely reaching and down to that depth of 3rd reef, it actually takes a fair wee bit of breeze to keep the head up to windward. But the point is that for two handed sailing where rest is imperative, sleep can happen if you slow the boat enough, and you can keep headed for your destination.

We've done many miles under wind vane, and i think if the OP has one, it will help with his options. Just a lightning strike can take out one's electronics, and having a still-working windvane would be a real blessing, one thing to not have to worry about. Some people set them up to also be driven by a tiller pilot so as to be useful under power. Of course the electromagnetic pulse from lightning could wipe that out, too.
