Bavaria 50 Cruiser vs Jeanneau 49

Hi All!

I'm looking into buying a 4-6 years old Bavaria 50 cruiser or a Jeanneau 49, mainly used for costal cruising in the Mediterranean but should also have the capacity for some water sailing">blue water sailing too. I have found some Bav 50 and Jeanneau 49 in my price range and would be glad to hear about experiences from these boats. Have heard about lack of quality on the Bav but are their actually some quality differences about the Bavaria and Jeanneau? Also interesting about the sailing performances, I am a fan of quite fast and light weight boats that are still easy handled.

Thanks,
Leif

If performance is important go for the Jeanneau. It's also very comfortable and a great cruising boat.

There's quite a number of both boats that you quote down my way, of the two Jeanneau owners always seem to be absolutely rapt with their boats, they both seem to do well racing, but having been on a couple of both just looking at their interiors I would have to say the Jeanneau just ticks all the boxes. No matter what vintage they are.

Hello

In my personal opinion (rather not biased - I never owned Jeanneau or Bavaria, but sailed some of them) Jeanneau is much better boat.
Almost no one boat type of Beneteau/Jeanneau family was built on so far going principle of "cost cutting - for any cost" as Bavarias. The only boat range built by Benateau Group following quite directly philosophy of Bavaria was Cyclades - now aborted. If You have a choice - go for Jeanneau, I'm quite sure You will never regret this decision
