Thumbs up St Lucia to Union Island Trip

We are 3 couples planning a trip with the Moorings, April of 2013.
I have chartered many places, but not between these islands.
Has anyone any comments on a one way track for the wind/wave conditions at St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines of Bequoi and Canoun?
We'll have a 44' Beneteau.

Thanks,
Jim

Re: St Lucia to Union Island Trip

We've chartered out of St vincent. The sailing is suberb, the navigation is dead simple. Great wind and waves to the east, great wind to the west. Beware the boat vendors......Union island is the worst....it's the center of their hive, 2nd worst in my book was wallilabou on st vincent.
Other than that we ran into no real wind/wave problems.

Re: St Lucia to Union Island Trip

We did some of our favorite cruising down there. I'd suggest that when you're ready to leave St Lucia, that you clear out in Marigot and then head down to Soufriere to spend the night on a mooring. Leave at dawn for Bequia. You should arrive in time to clear in before the C&I office closes. From there you have your pick of beautiful islands and anchorages. Wind and wave conditions depend on what time of year you'll be there, but you shouldn't encounter anything you can't handle.

I have to disagree with the warning about the boat vendors. They're just trying to make a living and actually do provide useful services. If you treat them with respect and a smile, and chat a little, you can tell them "No" and you won't get any guff. Some are real characters and fun to banter with.
