sail sail

I just wanted to say hello. Having been sailed around 10 years on Lake Ontario (O'Day 30). I am planning to buy a 1979 Morgan NA 40 and to sail up and down on the east cost (Canada to Florida) including Caribbean in short term and maybe more extended sailing across the Atlantic in long term with my wife in 2-3 years. Glad to be here. I am looking forward to learning more from you.

Re: sail sail

This is an older (obviously) racer cruiser, intended to be a club racer with family cruising capability. It was not a big seller but it is a decent boat. It will sail well, including upwind, but it won't be really fast downwind. It's IOR influenced hull shape will restrict it's top speed. Never the less, it will outsail most cruising yachts launched in the last 40 years if equipped with moderate sails and properly handled. What you will find is that it will sail fast with small sails and it can turn into a handfull with big sails. Reef early and use a working jib, you will be pleased.

There is volume inside for cruising, but not a lot. Tankage will be limited. You can add more tanks.

Storage will also be somewhat limited.

With it's age it may already have many modifications and added equipment, but otherwise you will spend a lot of money adding cruising equipment.

All in all you will a a good sailing boat which can be a decent cruising boat.

Re: sail sail

Welcome Vigupaga and Hello to a fellow Lake Ontario sailor! (I'm just about to go out the door to sail today.)

Please update your profile with your location. This is an international forum and location assists CF members in helping each other out with relevant responses for your cruising area.

Super to have you aboard,
