Permission to come aboard!

New to Cruisers Forum
Retiring in few months so now time to start reading up, getting boat above Gilligan's pay grade while getting ready for that cruise of a lifetime. Great Lakes to Marathon Key.

Re: Permission to come aboard!

Why stop at Marathon. There's more to see over the horizon.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.
Our summer home is there.
After the fall who knows where might end up.

Summer home in Marathon? Isn't that a bit backwards. Summer = heat, mosquitoes, hurricanes. Winter in the Great Lakes = snow, cold, blizzards and did I mention snow?

University Professor in Chicago. During summer there is millions of kids everywhere out of school and looking for trouble. The magic word is "Peaceful". Great scuba around.
In Marathon we have only us on our beach.
In Chicago there would be 2,500 people in the same area which would make it very tough to fish!
And you would probaly get shot for trying to cast and hooking someone without a sense of humor!

Re: Permission to come aboard!

Ah Chicago, I lived there in 2000 into 2001 & I absolutely loved it. Although I am an Aussie born & bred in Sydney it was amongst the best 12 months of my life. Just loved Lake Michigan, where I used to walk & rollerblade and walk up to Wrigley field to see a Cubs game or go to Lincoln Park or to Allstate for a Blackhawks game, the choice of all the different rock concerts & the tickets were so cheap to what I was used to.

A great city and I still really miss it.

The realities of life and career once again interfere with sailing and recreation. But one benefit, diving usually much better in the summer.

I haven't been diving in the Keys for years. How are the reefs doing? Last time I was there the continuing loss in hard corals over time was depressing.
