Re: Panama canel

Yes there are fees. Plus much filling in of forms etc. They will come & measure your boat and then charge a fee based on the measurement. My advice is to employ an agent. He will deal with all the Kafkaesque beauracracy, and instruct you on who to bribe how much. It's a minefield. In addition you will need four line handlers on board and four 100ft long lines suitable for securing the boat in the locks, and some large fenders.
Your boat will probably go through in a raft of three boats, with the largest in the centre doing the driving. Sometimes a yacht will transit tye locks side-tied to a larger commercial vessel.
Your boat will have to have a motor capable of sustaining 5-6 knots for the fifty plus miles of the transit. Mostly the transit is conducted over two days, with a night at a mooring in the Gatun lake.
It's an enjoyable and interesting process. Have fun.

Re: Panama canel

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.
