Hi Everyone
A quick introduction, my partner and I have recently purchased an older (2003) Elan 45 from a charter company in Croatia. We have sailed it this summer through Croatia, Montenegro and down to Greece were we currently are. We will be lifting the boat onto the hard in the next few weeks before heading south back to Australia, and plan to return to continue cruising the Med next season.
It’s been a steep learning curve with many highs and many lows.. some I hope to discuss on some of the other forums.. looking forward to meeting and contributing to the site.

Hi ScubaTyke. Overall the experience has been positive. We are very happy with the boat, being one of the older models she is very solid. One thing you need to accept is that if you buy an ex-charter boat it will have been knocked around. Just about everything will need some attention so what you save in purchase price be prepared to spend in time fixing little things. We didn’t have the money to buy a similar non charter boat and I’m fairly practical and enjoy fixing things. The advantage of this is you also get to know the boat fairly quickly. We have seen it as a positive so far but I think if you weren’t prepared to do the work yourself and had to pay someone... you would end up behind

ARO - Thanks for your response, I am also fairly practical and currently based in Cyprus which is where I will be based for a while when I get a boat so I will definitely keep this as an option for me.
