New Guy

hey all!

Just signed up for the board after a couple years lay-off from reading the boards. We sold a Baba 30 we had on Biscayne Bay and sold our house in the Florida Keys. We got tired of the crowds and the hurricanes. Now we live here in Wisconsin and have just bought a Liberty 28 that I'm going to take down the Mississippi to the Gulf to finally tie up in Key West for a while.

I finally figured out that I can't live without having a boat as an escape vehicle for myself. Been retired for almost 10 years and a USCG licensed captain for the same amount of time. We can do anything we want, when we want. I reckon I want to go sailing for a while.

Cheers,
Captain Steve

P.S. My older son and I are climbing Kilimanjaro in three weeks. Life can be an adventure if you want it to be.

Greetings Steve. I am assuming that you are an experienced climber but be careful nonetheless. Even though Kilimanjaro is significantly less challenging than K2, a good friend of mine who is (was) an experienced climber just returned from summitting K2 and had to have most of his toes and fingers amputated due to the effects of frostbite. For me, sailing in temperate lattitudes is adventure enough.

Thanks all! Kili isn't too much of a task to climb. I'm afraid these Wisconsin winters pose more of a threat to health and limb. The main reason I got the boat was to be able to be in some sunnier lattitudes at least a portion of the year. I also secretly plan to circumnavigate, but I haven't told my wife!

Cheers!!

Re: New Guy

Hi Captain Steve,

Not sure if you’ll see this, but wanted to say hello and thank you! I bought Native Dancer, now Ophelia, this past spring and the previous owner kept her in near perfect condition! This summer we did a quick hop from Ponce inlet to Cape Canaveral, but my auto tiller died before we got to Fort Pierce so we motored her back up the ICW for a couple days. I’m now prepping to move her to Charleston, and while searching online for tips, came across your old for sale post haha. In case you’re curious, here’s some photos I posted on another forum if you’d like to check it out!

Thanks again, this boat is amazing and it’s all because her owners took such good care of her! She’s about 7 years older than me but makes me look like an old man in comparison 🤣.

Best,
Russ L.
