Houston Tug/Barge guy says hello.

I'm in the Houston area and am becoming more and more interested in the sailing experience. I've worked on commercial vessels on the Gulf Coast and inland waterways (Mississippi, Ohio, Tenn-Tom, Etc) for nearly 20 years. I know red from green and bow from stern but I know very little about sailing.

I've been lurking for a few months and enjoy the discussions. I'm looking to buy a sub-30 ft monohull at some point but I want to become a little more knowledgable before making the commitment. If anybody wants to take a novice sailing some time, I'll bring beer and splice all the three strand you give me.

If anybody has questions about the commercial side, I'll answer them the best I can.

Re: Houston Tug/Barge guy says hello.

Welcome CHUCKERS, I've Been up the Houston ship channel many times to pick up M.T.B.E. for refineries back in Los Angeles. Used to run on a 65,000 DWT tanker converted to haul clean product.
We used to joke that if you fell in the river you would melt, not drown. People there were the best.

I'm very familiar with HSC. I'm sitting in Port Arthur on 45,000 bbls of crude right now.
