Hello from Northern Ireland

Hopefully this will be a hello from somewhere hotter and with water all around.

My girlfriend and I are about to sell up and head to a new life on the ocean waves..

I have some sailing and marine engineering experience, she has faith and a wonderful smile!

Looking for a boat to live on and cruise. Doing the usual "wow, ferro cement is cheap, oh yeas, thats cos nobody wants them, ok nor do i then" thing.

Actually, I would buy one in an instant if I was sure of the yard that built it... but that is another (and extensive) thread... yes, i read it all... three years of it!

So I have looked and read and thought it was time I said hello and stopped just taking from others. Of course, not saying any of my pearls of wisdom hold any wisdom, but I might as well throw them in now and again.

So there you have it. In a few months we expect to be afloat in our new home, looking around at the four very close walls and saying to each other "wow this is great" whilst thinking "what the heck have we done!!!"

Nothing ventured...

Welcome to CF David, you have a nice cruising area where you are. I'll be calling into Strangford Lough in early May, then heading south as far as Courtown.

Re: Hello from Northern Ireland

David hi and welcome. Hate to say this, but you have some of the most beautiful scenery in Antrim anyone could want for. Those cliffs at Fair Head are just awesome, the golden sands of Benone Beach, the cliffs and castle at Dunseverick. The little harbours of Ballintoy or Isle of Muck, but I can understand your desire to go and see. Me? I would love to return to NI again

Re: Hello from Northern Ireland

G'day David,

If you're thinking Ferro Cement boats, why not fly to North Island, New Zealand to buy your yacht, there are quite a few real nice FC yachts for sale in NZ and they are real cheep...Compared to prices in the UK...Or AU
Have a look at this site to get a feel for what's available in NZ...Just don't grab the one I have my eye on

BTW, welcome aboard mate,

Bill
