Hello from Melbourne Australia

Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself and give credit where credit is due, this is a great forum and the knowledge held within it is invaluable!

My sailing history started while I was still in nappies, sailing in Holland on my uncles yachts. The earliest I can remember was a Sonata(not sure) build by Dehler. He has had many, many yachts since and all have increased in size considerably.
When I was 9 I got my first dinghy, an optimist called 'Kalle' and enjoyed sailing that as well as being lucky enough to know most racing yacht owners in my town in Germany, so I could always pick and choose what yacht to go racing on depending on weather and what I thought would suit the conditions. :-)
I then moved to Australia and decided to become a sailmaker. Ocean racing was something I just loved doing. The survival aspect included into competitive racing was just the adrenalin rush I was looking for. Numerous ocean races including Sydney to Hobart's on some of the worlds most amazing racing yachts. I was lucky that people preferred having sailmakers on board just for the added 'insurance' I guess.
For numerous years I have not sailed now, as life took other turns. A recent trip to Bali however saw me looking out onto a beautiful schooner. This started the ideas, dreams and desires flooding back. How nice would it be to sail the seven seas again!?! I have no idea what the yacht is called, not who designed it, but she has an interesting rig and sail-plan on her, that you don't see every day. (I'll try to get a picture up, so if you know of any information about this yacht, please let me know.)
Since our return from that trip, my girlfriend and I have decided to make sailing a reality. She has not sailed before, but I have every confidence in her ability to pick it up quickly and learn all there is to know about it. She is just that type of girl. :-)

So, this turned out to be a little longer than I had thought for my opening post, but hello all and thank you for a great forum.

I am not familiar with that astonishingly beautiful boat, but I would certainly like to be.
It is wonderful that your partner is also keen to follow the salty path, but please please please be gentle with her introduction to it. So many fellows go into it gung-ho, and scare the hell out of their significant other.

She is called "Anitra May". A 20m Peter Cole design centreboard schooner. Twin Perkins diesels. She has been around Bali for about 12 months. My brother & his family have lived aboard for about 10 yrs.

As you can see from above, there is always someone with a great answer on CF.

Melbourne is my home town as well, but I am full time cruising these days so I only get back every couple of years.

Hello Craig,

Thank you for the information, a beautiful name for a truly beautiful yacht indeed.

Seeing her anchored off the coast for a number of days had my memories and dreams come flooding back. Now we are sitting here planning to cruise the seven seas and the catalyst was Anitra May.

We took quiet a number of pictures of her and if you think your brother would like them, I'm happy to email or upload them somehow.

Thank you for the warm welcome as well. This is a great site, I initially came across it researching "how to's" and CF kept coming up in the search engine. There is a lot of knowledge here and a very friendly atmosphere.

Melbourne is still standing and surviving without you, but I think you are the lucky one to have escaped the rat race.

I do plan to hang onto this girl, Danni does have a lot of spirit and adventure in her. She knows that there is close quater living and we already have a "naughty corner"; the dinghy and 100m of line.

Welcome Jens! Our dream started in Victoria when we taught ourselves to sail our 20ft trailer sailer in Pt Phillip Bay and the Gippsland Lakes. We loved living in Melbourne.
