Hello from Lake Champlain

Although I spent most of my youth enjoying Long Island's waters I am now based on Lake Champlain near Canadian border. A previous motor boater, I currently have a 1977 Pearson 26 and would love to sail her down to Florida via ICW and keep her there..bathed in warm water and the warm laughter of my family. Unfortunately, admittedly... I don't yet have the sailing skills for such a voyage. Always open to honest advise, and friendly conversation, a former EMT/firefighter and dancing fool, I'm married, raised eight children and looking forward to act II on the water.

Re: Hello from Lake Champlain

Welcome aboard, Aline! I'd recommend you that you read up a little bit about fundamentals of sailing, then take a couple of ASA hands-on classes to start. You will eventually need someone who can guide you and bring your boat to Florida. These two books, used in ASA hands-on sailing classes, are very well written for the beginner and are under 200 pages each:

1) Sailing Made Easy, by The American Sailing Association (2010) $22 USD
2) Coastal Cruising Made Easy, by ASA (2012) $24 USD

Most online booksellers have them in stock. Keep us posted on your progress! Good luck!

(Disclaimer: Not affiliated with ASA in any capacity.)

Re: Hello from Lake Champlain

Thanks, I've read the first but not the second. I used to have a 24 ft Shark and was very confident sailing her for several summers. Still getting used to the Pearson. My son
has his Captains and my daughter was a Coastie ( I'm Aux) but both working and in School now. Would be great to find someone adventurous enough to make the trip!
