Hello from Corpus Christi !

Well actually Lubbock right now. We own a farm here and commute every week to corpus for my wifes work and that is where we keep our boat too. We own a Ranger 29 sail boat. I've been looking for months for just the right cruiser that we can easily handle and this one was just set up perfect. I'm a retired sailor but learning the art of sailing still. I hope to meet some good people in Corpus to learn the ropes ( sorry lines) from as we enjoy our time on the water.
In my career I've seen two world cruises. Served on two WW2 era carriers, a battleship, a frigate and a destroyer tender. I can take a steam turbine apart and put it back together and go without sleep for days on end in 130 degree heat but please don't ask me what all those lines on my deck are for. haha.

Welcome to Cruiser's Forum. We are also in Corpus Christi on weekends. Lubbock is a LONG commute! I mean, like 8 hours? Our girls went to Texas Tech. We are on "H" pier, but we are moving to Port Aransas in 4 weeks, for the winter.

We are still in the last owners berth in Aransas pass now. Trying to get time to move to CC marina. It's a lot closer to A&M where my wife teaches. Why are you going to port A for the winter? Anything I need to know about Corpus? Hope to get to meet you sometime. We are usually there Wednesday through Friday but sometimes on Saturday. Yes, it is an 8 hour drive but for a chance to be back on the ocean it's worth every minute of it. I don't know why we bought a farm all the way up here.

Normally, I'd clue you in to the "deals" in the CC City Marina. But, in their infinite wisdom, they've ended those deals.

We wanted a change. We really like CC, but they just went up 10% on their fees, and did away with the "pay for 10 months, get 12 months" deal for existing tenants - their deal for new tenents was pay for 8, get 12. We like Port A, however it's expensive for us as transients - $60 a night. This way, we can go for 6 months and pay $12 a night instead. It's right on the Gulf, and a quick trip out. It's just as close as CC is to our favorite anchorage in Ingleside Cove. As well, we want a break from the politics at Bay Yacht Club.

I feel the same about the yacht clubs. NO politics on my boat! sick of it. I used to be stationed at Ingleside. I hear it's all closed up again now. I was there when it first opened and The Lex was temporarily homeported there along with a couple subs and a bunch of minesweeps. It was short lived. Is it that nice Marina in Port A that you are going to? I forget the name but I talked to them on the phone today and we're checking it out on Wednesday. Our boat doesn't have a shower and they say they have nice air conditioned bathrooms with showers. All they had available was 36 foot slips though. My boat is a 29. It was cheaper than corpus I remember and they don't have the stupid rules about liveaboards. Corpus has a 15 day limit thing then they consider you liveaboard and they don't allow 29 foot liveaboards. Nice.
We should get together in Ingleside sometime. I do miss that place.

Thanks for your service. I retired Navy over 20 years ago and served mostly on tin cans and a cruiser. I was stationed 4 years on shore duty in Germany after a tour in Vietnam (lucky me) and that's where I learned to sail on sailboats.
If you tore apart turbines then I'd guess Machinist Mate. Just a guess.

Yep. I was a machinist mate first class and for my last couple months I was a GM1. I miss those old real engines!
Hey, we're going to be back in Corpus on Tuesday for about a week this time. After a little bit of maintenance on the boat I want to spend some time out sailing. Anyone want to go?
