HELLO FROM BERLIN, NY

Hello everybody. Great to find cruisersforum.com Look forward to spending some quality time here learning all I can. For the past roughly 40 years, I have sailed
small wet sailboats in the waters of Long Island NY. The urge to sail something bigger and a bit dryer got the best of me and I purchased a 23ft 1978 Oday.
She doesn't shine but she's fully functional and a true pleasure to sail. I am planning to Sail her for a couple days on Lake Ontario at the end of September
and wonder what advise others may have for me?

Welcome to the forum. I admire your sane approach at selecting a vessel.

Welcome aboard Dustwind!

I know where Berlin is, I have relatives from Hancock, Ma and Pittsfield. Quite a distance from Lake O or the LI Sound.

Re: HELLO FROM BERLIN, NY

You got that right. I need to be out in the woods or on the water! But as a sailor I am slightly land locked! Lake George Doesn't have the wind So I spend alot of time behind the wheel. The Oday 23 is a trailorable boat so I spend as much time as possible in Mattituck LI on Great Peconic Bay

Re: HELLO FROM BERLIN, NY

thanks but not sure if sanity had much to do with it. I realized that I needed a intermediate sized monohull that I could trailer but still do some overnite/weekend sails.
I have another 10 years before I can retire so I plan to sail the Oday until then then move into the 30ft range and hit the open road!

No Sandy was just another day here in Berlin NY not to far south of here she did some damage they are still cleaning up. Of course Staten Island did not fair so well I'm still waiting for a damage report from Mattituck LI but I think no news is good news. My Oday 23 was safe on her trailor tucked in here at home. Wishing I could. Be aboard sailing her every time I look at her!
