I am a 100% newbie. I am retired Marine living in NC. I've recently been considering living life on a boat and port to port. I've been looking at an old military transport vessel that is cross-sea worthy. I know NOTHING about the boating lifestyle. My only boating experience is from military deployments on US Navy vessels. I've spent 2 yrs of my life on ships. I currently live off of my retirement and VA compensation. I miss the adventure of traveling to different places. I just feel like selling all my belongings and disconnecting. Peace!

You may want to update your profile. Helps us with location-pertinent advice.

Don't know if you have a local Power Squadron, but you might start off by taking one of their basic courses.

Also, is there perhaps a military sailing club somewhere near you? I know there's a Pentagon Sailing Club in Washington, DC... maybe there would be something similar proximate to you - wherever you might be in South Carolina.
