Greetings from Ventura California

Hello everyone,

My name is Dave, very nice to meet you.

I live in southern Ventura county, and looking at the Pacific daily has triggered a strong desire to go to sea.

I have some experience as a commercial fisherman in my youth, and some basic sailing experience (ASA 101 and day sailing)

I am at a point in my life where I can begin voyaging in earnest, as no pets, no kids, no other half involved.

Budget is tight, but that is how I operate. " A reduction in expenses is an increase in income" is my motto.

I originally started out looking for that inexpensive fast bluewater super boat...

Now that my bookshelf is loaded with Mr Bowditch, Casey, Mrs. Leonard, the Chapman, Pardy, Vigor and other pillars of true seamanship, the yachting magazines have been discarded.

These days I find myself looking for a classic well behaved 30 footer to cut my teeth on. Coastal sailing around the channel islands, harbor hopping, and someday peaking up past point conception are the big dreams for now.

Greetings from Ventura California

Hello Dave, Southern California is a great place to sail...year round if you keep an eye on the weather. The Channel Islands, Santa Barbara, Catalina, and on down the coast to San Diego and beyond. Get a boat and go.

Welcome aboard Nematon. Your plan is feasible, and your attitude sounds right. There are a lot of us piddling around your neck of the woods waiting for the shackles to be unlocked. Some great sailing there.
