Hi Ric and welcome to the forum.

Got any specific boats in mind?

Re: Greetings from Philippines - New Member

recomend getting a shallow draft vessel for both philipines and seyschelles area <3 ft or less
even better if you can dry out up a creek or on the beach.

ovni,or catamaran would be much more versatile for these areas

It looks as though we will have to sail from America as we are battling to find a boat this side, I am not sure how my wife feels about sailing across the Atlantic..Our first idea was to sail from Manila.

As a relatively new member myself, welcome to CF and the PI. Two threads you might find of interest are:

Being new to all of this I was confused by your statement "I am not sure how my wife feels about sailing across the Atlantic." This would put you in Europe so you would then either have to sail through the Med to Suez and out the Red Sea past the Somali Pirates; or you would have to sail down the coast of Africa round the Cape and cross the Indian Ocean to get here to the PI. What am I missing?

Your original idea seemed fine as boats are often less expensive here if somewhat harder to find. I can check with my builder to see if he knows of any boats for sale similar to the ones you noted in you want.

Mabuhay, Ric! Welcome aboard! Like Atoll says, a shallow draught/draft will open up more areas around the RP.

Re: Greetings from Philippines - New Member

WELCOME,

I am trying to get to the Phils. Life just seems to get in the way, but eventually I'll get there. I fell in love with the country on my first visit. Flying over the islands I could only imagine what it would be like to sail there.

When looking for my boat I used yachtworld.com. I saw many boats in Thailand for sale, and good deals too. If you are going too go as far as the U.S. you might as well keep the whole world open as an option. There are known places of broken dreams where cruises end for one reason, or another. I found mine in St. Maarten. Also Mexico has many oppurtunities for a purchase too.

I don't know your budget, but right in your own backyard a Wharram could be built for you. They have that beautiful island look, and shallow draft too. BEST WISHES in figuring it all out.......i2f

Re: Greetings from Philippines - New Member

We have now relocated to China for a few months and still haven't found our dream boat. Thanks for all the comments and hopefully she (our dream boat) will sail our way soon. We would like to sail in Jan/Feb/March from Asia to Seychelles. I dont think the Suez is an option with the pirate sinario and lack of sailing time, so we will carry on looking this side of the world. ! I will goggle a wharram as I have no idea what that is? Thank you all
