Also Don Miller said Floyd Ayers helped in the design, thus it's a William Garden and Ayers design. Gord I think those guys knew what they were doing. When you burning less than 2 gallons an hour going 7 knots on the iron genny and 8 knots under sail alone in 20 knots of wind, somethings gotta be right. These boats where designed with the trade winds in mind.

just to give us some perspective on your findings, what is your previous sailing/boating experience? What other 45' sailboats have you been on? Have you ever traveled on a hard chine trawler?

Not saying you're wrong, but these boats are not known to be dangerous, much less "really dangerous".

Doug we now own the vessel. He took her down to grand cayman about the time he posted the original question. He was in 40' following seas, no masts and had none of the 450 gallons she carries in her. He lived to tell the tale, grin. We've found her to be quite a pleasant ride, except for the 8' chop on our nose 2 weeks ago here in the Gulf. Then again that's never real fun, unless you like ride em' cowboy!

.... 40' seas??? ..... Which hurricane did he survive?

lol we get 50 + ft seas on west coast commonly without hurrycames...LOL.... try it sometime--is WAK!!!!! but is common---- 40 kt wind=40 ft seas--LOL.. try it sometime--i recommend winter.....
