As for me - single Dad, pay is lousy, hours long, have no training, "staff / customers" can be difficult but wouldn't swap it for quids and you get to do all the "Mom stuff" as a bonus.

Other than that, been in comms of one sort or another for ever; mechanical switching and open wire through to radio, satellite, fiber in government, private, commercial (aviation & off-shore oil/gas). Short stint as a pig farmer!

Also busy as a poser & tosser poster on CF.

Did I mention project boat enthusiast and past cruiser and wannbe future cruiser (whenever I get dumped from being a single Dad).

Started out as a farmhand, then joined the Air Force. Became an insurance claims adjuster, Warehouse controller, steel mill worker, door to door sales, Construction Cost Accountant, rode Hunters and Jumpers fox hunting, worked as a farrier for two years, drove tractor trailers, flight instructor, charter pilot and finally flew a Lear Jet for ten years. Never could really decide what it was that I was meant to be so I finally just hung it up and became a retard....er retired gentleman of leisure. Note that I use the term "gentleman" loosely!

I believe about 1/2 dozen (myself included) listed bartender as a past profession. It would count depending on quantity served, short of being a Conrad Murray dose, then it crosses a line.

I am a retired civil servant. I teach English part time here in Quebec City and am presently working on finding regular translation (French to English ) jobs to support my winters while on my boat in the Keys, Bahamas and Cuba.

Not a complete list, but all I could think of.

• Sweep out country store (I was in 5th grade and did this on the walk home each day. Got a quarter. Spent it on candy)
• Cut grass
• bus tables at a family restaurant ($1/hour plus milk shakes)
• Work at grandfather's moving company (several summers)
• mushroom farm
• Wash dishes at steak house
• Hamburger joint
• Magazine rack inspector for National Enquirer. Very strange to get a paycheck from them while I was in high school.
• Pizza joint
• Camera sales
• Medical photographer at UGA Vet school
• EDIT: I just had to add this one. Worked weekends at a Dupont plant. The only thing done at that plant was to take yarn from little spools and put it on big spools.
• Odd jobs - lots of house painting
• Automotive type painting - fork lifts, etc.
• Commercial waterproofing (among other things, worked on the train tunnel under the Atlanta airport)
• Installed 24 hour photo booths in parking lots in Houston. In the summer.
• Chemical application for lawn maintenance company. Also did small engine maintenance.
• Odd jobs - among others: peanut inspector at a Superman peanut butter plant (stare at a conveyor belt and pick out most of the rocks and sticks we saw go by. Whatever we missed got crushed to smithereens and was never noticed....)
• Truck driver - household moving companies -several
• Computer sales
• Computer data entry for a household moving company. They called me their "Computer Guy". But all I did really was keypunch, book moves, do billing, run payroll, etc.
• Ran sound for a local cover band - $20/weekend plus free beer.
• IBM midrange programming, S34, S36, AS/400, and a little *nix - 26 years - for the last 16 I've been doing infrastructure systems design and coding for a 9 billion dollar company.

Basically, for the 10 years after high school, I bounced from one thing to another. Sometimes starving. Sometimes falling back on truck driving. Managed to get married and go to college for a while, get divorced, and finally get into a career in computers.
