Re: Science & Technology News

HIGHER ARTIFICIAL ISLAND MAY KEEP MALDIVES AFLOAT

The sea is rising. How will the low-lying Maldives survive?
By rising as well.

Unable so far to persuade nations to slow carbon emissions (which are increasing world temperatures and ocean levels), the travel-friendly Maldives is working on a drastic Plan B. It is creating an artificial island, set three feet higher than many of its other islands, with vertical housing for half of its people.

That’s not all. The island nation is also planning 5,000 homes floating on pontoons, able to rise with the waters. There’s not much time, so these audacious ideas are being watched by other nations beset by climate change, Tristan McConnell writes.

Re: Science & Technology News

Why does nobody ask how to help nations that are intent on living on islands located on tectonic plates that are subducting under adjacent tectonic plates?

Possibly, because we're not a-holes, nor ignorant idiots.

US rooftops could host enough capacity to produce an annual 4.2 petawatt-hours (PWh) per year, which slightly surpasses the country’s current total energy output of around 4 PWh per year. (The petawatt (PW) is equal to one quadrillion [1015] watts.)

Most rooftop solar systems are connected to the grid so the panels on your house can assist charging your car at work.

The average electric vehicle requires 30 kilowatt-hours to travel 100 miles — the same amount of electricity an average American home uses each day to run appliances, computers, lights and heating and air conditioning.

The problem is a little larger than just those nations.... "The 2020 global population estimate for coastal land below 2 m +MSL is 267 million"

Can you name any "islands located on tectonic plates that are subducting under adjacent tectonic plates?"

Yes due to the volcanic being south of 20° it will have the most 3ffect on the southern hemisphere as it looks like minimal boundary cross for now at least.
Solar will affect the planet as a whole more so. However they are all related. Cosmic rays are much higher with lower solar activity and that causes volatility in silica rich magma .which in turn leads to volcanic eruptions.

Except the Maldives are not sinking they are infact growing in size naturally.
Look it up.

Really? I mean relly?
Now for context . Every island east of the Marianas or yap trenches are at risk. All the way to the east Pacific rise are eventually going to do just that. Track the Hawaiian island chain . Some of them have already started to succumb to the dive. It's natural takes millions of years but it is happening all the time . But you can't tax the planet.

You didn't make the initial questionable claim, but you are again demonstrating your deplorable lack knowledge regarding geoscience, just like pt49.

The Pacific Plate contains an interior hot spot forming the Hawaiian Islands.[3]

Which is moving . The plate not the spot. Ask Michael Mann afterall he is a geologist.
You do realise that midway island is part of the Hawaiian island chain right ? It's just not part of the state of hawaii.
