Apparently there is an old phrase for this, which is "Having a cutting out party." As in you cut the dock or anchor lines of whatever or whosever boat strikes your fancy and you get out of port.

Well I live in center city Philadelphia and I can tell you this mostly hype.

That said, we have our bug out boat locked and loaded.

No, not a joke.

Well, I have changed my plans in my old age after reading this. I'll just keep my Lagoon 52. I should go and clean it too. Can anyone tell me where I left it? It's the white one!

I only ask to gain preventative ideas.
Have read many a tale - aubrey maturin et al of "cutting out".
I'm mostly at anchor - my welcome would be similar.

I think that the social contract has been rendered null and void.
i don't blame those that riot. their target may not be correct, etc. But they are pissed, and should be, as the "end of the world" will manifest in the poorer classes - but certainly caused by the uber classes...
i will try not to be in the way - except for irene...hmmmm - looks like i picked the wrong day to cancel the haul out...

Quite honestly my thoughts came out of discussion with my wife in a traffic jam on the bay bridge about how the hell we get out of here in a friggin' emergency, so if I'm coming for a boat, trust me there's a situation like a mega sunami, or mega volcano, or mega pandemic (made up the last one), but seriously you'll have a lot bigger problem than "them darn kids!"
Thank goodness we are buying a boat so I won't have to resort to such tom-foolery!

Not to hijack the thread (is that possible on an End of World thread?)

We are going to be docking in Delaware City until we leave in 2013, have to raft up one weekend. Anyplace good up there btw, really havnt been up there, spent most of my time on the Chesapeake.

Only one place, Delaware City Marina.

DELAWARE CITY MARINA - WELCOME!

It is a popular transient spot for folks going through the canal.

It is on the old canal branch so long and narrow. Delaware City itself is not much of a town, 1 convenience store, 2 bars, 6 churches. We like it.

Those in rural areas and small towns have a great advantage, I'd hate to think about how to get out of NYC!

Part of my purpose in doing this is to get the heck out of Dodge anyway. How far is the question, which has alot to do with the right boat.
How long does it take to build a Seaworld catamaran?

Nice! Can't wait to get this process rolling. When I was calling around ro marinas Delaware City's staff that I talked to were very friendly and inviting. Going up soon to look over the place. We used their ramp a few years back to launch for Canal Days, but didn't really look around.

When the world ends, the world ends. Won't make a bit of difference if your at sea, at home, in a boat, on a boat or in the middle of what ever. It's over. Done. Finished.

But I would like it to end on a new 50 foot Valient.

- - The first step in total moral decay and destruction of a society is to think stealing something is funny. As an example just look to the recent riots in and around London, England. Maybe you young folks also think that rape is funny and can make jokes about it - after all it is taking/stealing something you think you need from somebody else without permission.
I always liked the story about the young man who pitched a tent on the estate of the local Manor, and was confronted by an irate overweight middle aged Lord of the Manor with demands to leave his land forthwith.

Young Man: "What makes this your land?"

Lord of the Manor: "I inherited it from my Father, who inherited from his in a chain of ownership going back nearly 1,000 years"

Young Man: So, how did the first Lord obtain the Land?

Lord of the Manor: He fought for it.

Young Man: That sounds fair enough......I'll fight ya for it

Moral of the story #1 - the more you've got the more Mojo you need to keep it, either provided by self or via the State......otherwise it's just sitting with an open suitcase of dollar bill on a bus tour of lower Crack City, USA.....IMO you deserve what you get.

Moral of the story #2 - DOJ clearly has too much time on his hands at the moment

In case this is misunderstood, by "in private over a few beers" I mean to have the conversation and learn from it, and eventually put practices in place to prevent theft. Not condoning theft or beer-drinking-to-prepare-for-thievery. Beer drinking maybe, just not the thievery part. And ale is good too.

Brad

isn't saying you"fought for it" a polite way of saying you stole it from a weaker party?
