Motorists Rescued By a Floating Sauna
A Tesla plunged into frigid water in Oslo, Noeway. The motorists were rescued, by a floating sauna, as their car sank.
Two motorists who found themselves trapped when their car plunged into the chilly Oslo fjord on Thursday escaped unharmed when a floating sauna came to their rescue, Norwegian police said.

Re: Nautical Oddities

I knew there was something about Norwegians I liked!
1) They go boating in winter.
2) They go boating in a sauna.
3) They rescue people in distress.
4) They toss Teslas into the ocean.

Re: Nautical Oddities

At first I thought that is a mediocre floating sauna, but then from profile view with the roof top deck I give it an 8!

Here is an odd craft, built in the early sixties, drives the 4 wheels and has a prop. Engine is from a Renault Dauphine.

It truly is strange, isn't it?

Nobody would bother saying "A Toyota plunged into frigid water in ..." or "A Ford plunged into frigid water in ..."

They'd just say "A car plunged into frigid water in ..."

But because it's a Tesla, they just have to mention that specific detail, as if it were somehow important or relevant.

99 Year old, Betty Brussel, crushed the world record, in the 400-metre freestyle swim, on January 20, competing in the 100-104 age category, at a swim meet in Victoria, B.C. (Per competition rules, Brussel qualifies for the category because she will be 100 this year).
She shaved almost four minutes off the previous record, and went on to break two more records that day, in the 50-metre breaststroke, and the 50-metre backstroke.

Yes, the bimini is an addition made in the last few weeks, so the current owner said. His father built it, before he was born. Was in the shed for over 50 years.
Just painted it, brought the engine back to life and licenced it as a boat, but..... found it not to be very seaworthy.

Re: Nautical Oddities

A pod, of ±13 killer whales, were spotted, trapped in ice, in northern Japan. Drone footage captured the struggling orcas, trying to break free of the large ice chunks, off the town of Rausu, on the northeastern coast of Hokkaido.
Evidently, the orcas have, since, freed themselves from the drift ice, as gaps between them grew.

Re: Nautical Oddities

Off Japan? You sure they didn't become sushi?

By "trapped" I assume not immobilized, but unable to find a path to open water which had openings they could breath at along the way. They're pretty smart, I imagine they have a system for searching cooperatively for a way out.

The mysterious sailing stones, of the Racetrack Playa, in California's Death Valley, appear to move across the valley floor, without human [or animal] intervention. These rolling rocks are, in fact, lent traction by the effects of floating ice sheets, and the wind.

In Vanuatu, the world’s first, and only, underwater post office, lurks nine feet (2.8m) below the water’s surface, just off the coastline, in the Hideaway Island Marine Sanctuary. Visitors can snorkel down to the fibreglass postal booth, and drop off a special waterproof postcard here, which can then be sent to anywhere in the world.

Saint Malo, a historic French port on the English Channel coast, is famous for having the highest tides in Europe, with breakwater defenses barely keeping giant waves from slamming into residential buildings.

"Stolt Surf", North Pacific 1977

The following images are from the chemical tanker ship "Stolt Surf", built in 1970, caught in a large storm, in the North Pacific Ocean.
The largest waves of the storm broke over the Bridge, more than 72 feet (22 meters) high.

Going into the trough of a wave: [Top Left]
Riding up to the next peak: [Bottom Left]
Nearly at the crest:[TR]
Topping the crest - just to have another huge wave behind it: [BR]
