Re: How Many of You Log into this Site from a Computer ?

I have just started using app on iPod Touch. Nice to have but I feel like I'm looking through a bottle top, and accessing features feels the same way, like reaching through a tiny port to get control, and having not enough overview to see structure and options for easily moving around. I use it if I must, but I prefer a pc/laptop by far.

We are out cruising. We do use 3G in most places, but it is not available here in TRNC, so we are stuck with wifi. The iTouch went swimming recently so for now we are stuck using real computers on the boat or laptops in the marina bar. Our son brought an iPad when he visited us in Greece recently. While it worked some of the time, it did not work at times and places when our 3G on the main computer did connect. For now, we will replace the iTouch (do not want an iPhone because it is so very easy to purchase a new simm card for our old quad-band phone when we enter a new country -- worked in 13 countries so far), and I don't think the iPhone would be so easy to obtain service when we frequently change countries. Just depends on where in the world you are sailing as to which is best.

iPad 3G WiFi. Immediate start up, fast unit. iPad in an OtterBox surround.
Use for Internet, email, word processing, reading the odd ibook, Cruisers Forum, Facebook, logging into office computer (remote desk top)
Use iNavX charting and planning but have a little Navman at helm.
Only issue is lack of Flash Player for browsing but SkyFire gets most of stuff if really want to see video on news sites.....otherwise YouTube for most other video.
iPad does 98% of what I need and does it well. The other 2% hasn't justified the need for laptop or computer on board at this time....but then I don't live on my boat at this time. If I did live on board I would aim to have a basic computer (likely a Mac) to back up iPad to and a couple of specific software applications that can't be run on an iPad

Desktop (work and home) or iPad (boat and home this week since we're still without power from Irene).
