Good post. Last year in November i had a 250 pound mako get caught up in the rope of our lobster troll. It was dead when it came up rope was stuck in it's mouth and came up face first towards the boat . Nearly sh%t my pants.

Caught a couple of Makos back in the stinkpot days about 30 miles off Montauk. They are nasty critters and very good jumpers. Quite a thrill on rod and reel. They are also EXCELLENT eating, IMO better than swordfish. I hope the guy doesn't waste it. He was smart to keep his distance because their teeth are literally razor sharp. We would never bring a shark into the boat but would tail rope and hang 'em up until dead.

A typical fish story. D'ya notice the Mako gained 25# in a few paragraphs? Betya it's 800# by the 4th beer. This is a heck of a sight however.

Wow, love that eel story! Just goes to prove...when in doubt, have another beer. Always wonder what kind of strange, unknown and possibly angry critters actually live in the sea... all those ancient stories of sea monsters, Nessie, Champy (right here in Lake Champlain).

we get some big eels netting off the lizard in cornwall,definitely a "bruce willis" fish tho good smoked if you don't mind lots of bones
