WA could be different but that would be unusual.
I just tried to make it clear that you would pay an annual "something" to register in WA. I think it technically is an "excise" tax in WA with a couple of other minor fees on top. Just wanted to make clear that it can be a significant bill - much more than for a car say.

So there is a high sales tax rate and annual property/excise tax.

State income tax?

Wow, what do they do with all that money?

Note to self, skip WA.
WA has sales tax. We do NOT have an income tax. Oregon has an income tax but does not have a sales tax. WA has no trouble spending what they get from wherever. Whether that is good or bad depends on individual persuasions.

I believe this is how WA does it. Sales tax and/or use tax then annual excise tax plus fees.

I have heard that some people who itemize and have a primary home with a mortgage have claimed a deduction on a second home mortgage (as a vacation home I think). Don't know if that is legal or how it works. I have avoided getting loans on my boats to avoid the restrictions they put on you.

I did that for many, many years. It IS perfectly legal. Eventually refinanced the house, rolled in the boat then sold the house.
