Marina Suggestions in Corpus Christi Area

Anyone have any recommendations for a marina in the Corpus Christi TX area that are reasonable and can do some basic rigging repair?

Re: Marina Suggestions in Corpus Christi Area

Your choices in CC area are these:

CC City Marina: If you are liveaboard, they do restrict how many are on each pier. Nice marina, good folks, but it's part of a big(ish) city bureaucracy. The "new" part of the marina is on People's Street - and it's quite busy/noisy. It's a much safer part of the marina during hurricane season. Lawrance Street is old, but still floating. Not in great shape. Be aware that they have Market Days there every 1st weekend of the month, turning parking into a nightmare.

Port Aransas City Marina: Nice marina - we are there now. LONG waiting list for year-round slips, but available during the winter months (Nov-April). Completely different than CC, that is in the middle of downtown. Great access to the gulf.

Bahia Marina: In Ingleside, it's a bit eclectic. They have a couple of empty slips. No floating slips, but they do have a pool. Few of the boats in this marina move.

Island Moorings, Port Aransas: Good marina, but buggy in the summer. If you draw more than about 5.5 feet, it can become hard to get in and out of.

Feel free to contact me offline.

Oh, and for rigging, give Matt Sebring a call: three-six-one. four six one. four zero six seven. Please tell him "Bill from Merlin" gave you his name.

Re: Marina Suggestions in Corpus Christi Area

I know this is kinda old but I wanted to say that island moorings has done a lot of work on the channel. It's at least 8 feet deep everywhere now and we routinely sail all the way in to our slip without a problem. Our draft is 5.6 feet. The people that work there are great and so are our neighbors. We came from San Patricio navigation district marina a couple months ago and that place just sucked! Their channel was horrible and completely unmarked. Just plain dangerous after dark. The place is a dump. Island moorings is buggy even now in the winter but we manage just fine. I don't open a hatch unless all the lights are off inside and if I leave them open we have mosquito netting fitted to all of them. Its only bad at dusk and dawn though.

How far is the motor from Island Moorings Marina to sailing in Corpus Bay?

Depends on your draft. You can cut through stingray hole is less than 4 feet and be there in under an hour at 5 knots. More than 4 either take the icw on the east end of pelican islan of the west end toward the bay bridge. I wouldnt recommend the east end till youve done it a few times with someone that knows the channel. The markers on both sides are always moving.

Being honest, why exit Island Moorings for CC Bay, when the Gulf of Mexico is closer! Overheard 2 guys arguing at the bar at Island Moorings a couple of weeks ago. One said "...the gulf in 20 minutes", the other said more like 40.

Plan on an hour to the bay, via the ship channel and the ICW.

BTW, we are now in the Port Aransas City Marina. Since fall is coming, it's WAY easier to get onto a slip/waiting list. You HAVE to be in the marina to get a decent chance for a floating pier, though.

That was my thinking too. The gulf is closer and more fun. Lydia ann is nice too and there are several restaurants with sailboat parking that direction too. We dont go to corpus bay a lot anymore.
