just wondering with all the people on this forum and the endless total hours at sea people must have come across alot of strange and wonderfull things floating out there, so share with us what you have come across

Fenders, mob poles, a message in a bottle. The finest thing I have seen out there has to be the wildlife, though.

Yea, turns out it was some kid from California, which was exciting to find in Puget Sound. Turns out he was visiting Puget Sound when he dropped the bottle. :/

I found a lot of round foam balls.

But they usually have strings attached.

I don't think gold would float very well, though perhaps those bales were the "Acapulco" variety of gold?

Last May I saw a lot of very Japanese looking debris as I delivered a boat down the West coast of the USA.
The owner was new to ocean and night sailing as well as the other crewmember.
When the newbie crewmenber refused to use radar at night because, "It is basically useless" and he "couldn't see anything on it", I got cross with him.
All he wanted to do was follow the pink "Guide to" line on the Garmin to the next waypoint !!

When I got home, all the talk was about that dock that went aground in Oregon.

I bought a 55'er many years ago and recently sold it to go smaller (37). When I was cleaning out the craft prior to listing it, I was in a crawl space beneath the chart table. In an almost inaccessible area, the vacuum cleaner nozzle caught something. I crawled out, found a screw driver and dug out the object. It was an older Omega Seamaster. It was still ticking away (automatic winder) and was soon taken to the watchmaker for a service and scrub up. I later sold it on ebay for $1200. It had been there at least 12 years. I don't know who originally lost it but, it must have caused some heartache at the time. It was indeed floating gold!

Sorry. I have to ask. After 12 years, what was the time and date?

I did not take notice of the date, but the time was out by about 9 hours. I expect that during times when the boat was unattended in the marina (Inside a lock in Darwin, so little movement) that the watch stopped and only got kick started when I went out sailing.

Coincidentally, my watch of choice since 1989 has been an Omega Seamaster.

To date, I've found two fishing rods, numerous hats, a PFD, an empty esky (darn), and a red 20 litre plastic jerry can still full of fuel. Though we didn't use the fuel, just in case it was contaminated with seawater.
