Croatia & Greece Digital Nomad Visa

Has anyone managed to get either of these visas while providing your sailboat as your address?

Are these countries open to this as a valid "address" when applying for their digital nomad visas? I can't seem to find any info on this specific case. We could always try and provide an address, but the reality is, we're going to be sailing their waters and not really at a permanent address.

Hello!

Were you able to solve this? I am currently in the same situation in Croatia, and I don't seem to find how to solve it.

We didn't need to do it in the end. Using an address from an Airbnb is fine for the purposes of getting the visa. You can then cancel the reservation.

If I want to cruise around Croatia for 6 months (having come from Greece via Montenegro) do I need to book an Airbnb for 6 months to get a Digital Nomad visa for the whole 6 months.

I just looked at booking an Airbnb for 6mths and would need to cancel before I’m likely to get the visa approved eg: booked for May 1 to 30 Nov, need to cancel by 28 Feb
Which means I’d need to have applied and approved before 28 Feb.
I’m trying to formulate a timeline - can you remember what you did please ?

Hey,

We finally got the visa approved and we have been living for the last couple of months.
Not sure how it works in Greece, only speaking for Croatia. And it's always different what is supposed to happen vs how you can manage to sort things out.

As LTShaw mentioned, for the purposes of applying for the visa, it's fine to use an Airbnb address. But once your visa is approved, you have about 10 days (don't remember exactly) to go to a Police station to register your address and request an ID. And here is where address gets more complicated as you are requested to present papers.

In our case, we presented a long term berth rental contract on a marina, which ends in December 2024. They had to ask to a higher rank administrative whether this was acceptable or not, and after approved, we were asked to sign a handwritten letter stating that we commited to present a new address/ contract by the date our contract expired.

Not sure what happens if you don't go there 10 days after you receive that notification (email), but probably your granted visa get's revoked. Anyway, you would need to do so as you still don't have any proof of being legally. This might not be a problem if you get in and out of Schengen through Croatia, but for sure can be a problem if you do so through another country.

Also not sure what can happen if we don't present a new address by December (my bet is just nothing as it was super informal), but we've already made some friends willing to provide an address for us.

In case you don't have a marina contract, I'm not sure how you can solve it.
Also, talking to other sailors, apparently the acceptance of a marina as residence varies a lot among regions.

Hope this helps you!

Following up here - would love to know how you resolved this issue. The idea of a long-term marina berth is somewhat in opposition to the idea of long-term cruising!

Indeed, and not only for cruising but not sure how people working really nomadically are doing, I assume most of them don't stay for a whole year in the same place.

At the moment we haven't declared any new address yet, we will do so shortly. But we hauled the boat out of the water for the Winter, so ye are in an apartment and we will now declare this address. We might take the risk of not changing it again once we are out in the water again.

I believe there is no other way to do it. Maybe a good solution can be to find a small and local marina that is willing to let you use their address even though not really being there for a small fee.

Are you actually trying to sort it out or just curiosity?

This is very much for real - we're planning 2025 now, and would much rather find a solution that follows the rules (both written and unwritten).

Re: Croatia & Greece Digital Nomad Visa

I spent quite a lot time trying to find an answer to that same question, but I don't think there is one really.
I've heard of police stations that accept marinas as address for digital nomad visa, some others don't. In our case, they had to call a superior to figure out whether they could or couldn't accept it, so there's probably nothing specifically about it.
The only unavoidable part is having a concrete address, and for that you should present some form of consent, contract, or whatever. There is documents for address that can be accepted, but marina leasing is not one but in reality some police stations do.
In the end, unfortunately, it seems it just navigating through the bureaucracy and that depend on where you present it and who is doing it. I believe that as long as it is clear that you will not be a problem for them, they will try to help you to find a solution.

I'm curious if there are other digital nomads in Croatia who have found solutions to this problem.
