Re: Cheap portable washing machine

Many years ago in the navy junior sailors washed their clothes in gavanised rubbish bins and used an agitator we called a pogo stick. Made of stainless steel with a copper cone on the end. These days just buy one off eBay.

Re: Cheap portable washing machine

ours is the $120 twin washer/dryer. bought in 2009 and still going strong. We live permanently on our boat. The only thing I had to replace are the rubber shock absorbers on the spin dryer. Replaced them with a piece of hose, good as new! Easy to move outside, as very light.

Yeah, I'm doing that now.

I see Dorm units for under $200, I just want to know if they work.

I have other uses for the plumber's friend.

Ours (model 56mgw2) will do our bedding, so pretty good size. They do make smaller versions as well. Ours was $400 canadian.

Re: Cheap portable washing machine

We have one from Densons that is almost a toy for $59.99. It can run four pieces of laundry and uses more water than the bucket and washing wand. It will spin dry a single piece at a time, if you get it balanced right. When we leave the USVIs for Grenada we will re-home the washer; Grenada has cheap wash & fold laundry.

Re: Cheap portable washing machine

we are full time live-abroads and have been using one of these for years ;

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Companio...frcectupt=true

dimensions only 650H x 362D x 560W mm and weight: 12kg so will fit on even small boats and easy to move around. on a sunny day we often bring it out of the laundry and put it in the cockpit

cannot understand why anyone would use anything else.

cheers,

Re: Cheap portable washing machine

bucket of salt water with joy liquid dishsoap...insert clothes, let rocking of boat clean the clothes....rinse with fresh....simple...easy...cheap...bucket can be used for other purposes....joy is also used for washing dishes....hang laundry from lifelines to dry...
if raining...use rainwater instead of salt water....

Re: Cheap portable washing machine

Lacking unlimited water supply or room in our boat for such an appliance, and wishing to avoid the weight and possible added maintenance, we have avoided a washer or dryer.

We have found that every port we have visited, except those in the Marquesas, have either coin operated laundry or laundries where an attendant will wash, dry and fold your clothes for you for a moderate to low price.

So, throw your clothes in a bag, take it to shore, and do some sight seeing while a local does the work. Here in Mexico we pay about $4.00 a week for our laundry.

TIP: Avoid places where they have a price list per item instead of price per kilo.
