I plan to move to the VI's in the fall but I would much prefer to live on my boat instead of a house. What are some "liveaboard-friendly" marinas? Has anyone ever stayed in Turtle Cove, TCI?
Thanks in advance!

STAYED A FEW TIMES~~ Great friendly Restaurants & Bars. Very popular with Delivery Skippers. Spent an Xmas there; great FUN.

Others have listed the places in the US Virgins that are popular with Live-aboards. And the US Virgins are part of the USA so working is not a problem for a US citizen. You just have to find a job.
Also living "on the hook" for an extended period of time in the US Virgins usually requires a permit from the government which is both time consuming and expensive but can be done as there are lots of people who have done it.

~That's interesting and novel for the US. I hold both Canadian and British Passports, but am not permitted to work in any of the British or Commonwealth Territories ~I should get a US Passport seeing as I live there and am married to an American~

Puerto Rico has great marinas including Puerto del Rey (where we are hauling out next week), Palmas del Mar and a few others. Depends on how you want to work but should learn some Spanish! Long term rates are reasonable and easy to get around PR!

Where did you find that statistic? Assuming you were correct, that would mean 55,000 cruise ship passengers per day, 365 days a year. I'm guessing the average cruise ship in the harbor holds about 3000 passengers and would require daily stops of 118 cruise ships. Most I've seen at one time in the past decade was 8.
I think most years average 1.5 million cruise ship passengers.
I do agree that there does seem to be more employment opportunities on St Thomas than on St Croix.

You're lucky! I'd love to have been musically inclined. Unfortunately I wouldn't make pocket change, I would get stoned.

Re: Best Liveaboard Places in USVI/VI Area
I lived aboard in both St. Thomas and St. Croix.
Ended up in Salt River, but not for anchor, rented dock space.
Pretty convenient when the bar and restaurant was running every day. Also protected in a blow. Good dive sites just minutes away.
Not sure what is going on at Salt River now, probably run down with wrecks laying around.
I liked it, would go back. Present wife is not interested in no living aboard and she does not like the Carribbean either.

Aye, we are all different.
Wife is a city girl.
She likes New York, Paris, London and Tokyo.
She did the Bahamas on the boat, she did the diving, etc., but she would rather go to a lux hotel in Paris (

Re: Best Liveaboard Places in USVI/VI Area
We are currently on the hook in St. John in the US Virgin Islands. It's beautiful, we can work here, and there are a multitude of beautiful islands and sailing excursions so close. The Spanish Virgin's are also lovely.
I have a blog with posts about sailing and anchoring in the US and British and Spanish Virgins. Feel free to check it out. www.mountainsandseashore.blogspot.com
Happy sailing!
