Knidos, the ancient Greek city at the tip of the long, skinny Dacha peninsula in what is today Southwestern Turkey, not far from the island of Rhodes, a day's sail south from Bodrum past the island of Kos.

You anchor in the ancient harbor. The three-thousand year old mole is still intact, doing its job protecting you. You throw down your anchor in about ten meters of utterly transparent water. The harbor is overlooked by a remarkably intact amphitheater, and you can wander around the ruins for days. Climb to the top of the mountain and you can see for miles!

Magical! I want to be there. Right now!

Hope I get the order right:

- St Davids Harbour, Grenada
- Fuik Baai, Curacao
- 50 kts squall in St Nicolaas Baai, Aruba
- Bahia Gairaca, Colombia
- Sapzurro, Colombia

I skipped the sandy beaches from the Bahama's and Turks & Caicos because they are already in the thread ;-)

ciao!
Nick.

Tarpaulin Cove, Naushon Island, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Private island (except for the beach). Sailors have been ducking in here to get out of nasty conditions in Vineyard Sound for almost 400 years.

Not good in a southerly, but you won't find better in a NW, N or NE wind.

Can get crowded in summer weekends, but weekdays and spring/fall look like this:

Looking WSW

Looking North

Looking East

Recherche Bay - South East Tasmania

A beautiful harbour - shelter from everything, a fascinating history, exciting entry when the swell is up and beautiful beaches.

King George River - the journey there makes it even more worthwhile. That dot down there is Sea Urchin - 27ft.
