Since the primary question has already been answered, I hope the OP won't mind the thread drift because I'm wondering will she need to have a
survey done prior to getting
insurance on a
new boat from a dealer? If so, it seems like it would be a good idea to get to have the
survey in hand prior to closing so any issues could be addressed at the dealers expense rather than at her expense a few weeks from now when her
insurance company mandated survey finds some expensive issues. I've always bought used boats so don't know what's advisable to do when
buying new, but for anything bigger and more complex than a day sailor, I'd want a survey done before I took it out of sight of land, even if it was brand new.
