They had a practice of accepting premiums without a survey requirement, but I can't vouch for that now. They are still approachable from the internet.

Insurance is a vast money making business for the brokers, the companies and the repair places. Often the repair places have two prices - one if you are insured - the second price for non insured. And the difference can be staggering.
From experience.

They also have a reputation of accepting premiums without settling claims...

And their premiums are not low enough to justify approaching it from the perspective of buying an insurance certificate to satisfy the bureaucracy as some of the sketchier auto insurers are.

You might try calling State Farm; we were having trouble (too old, LOA > 35) and initially got a liability only policy through State Farm that we converted to comprehensive after a year.

You might want to try a strategy where you're asking for $249,000, $499,000 or (as the previous poster $999,999) in liability coverage in case there are some internal computerized systems that automatically deny coverage at certain numerical cutoffs.

The million dollar-$1 number is the limit of my EPA cleanup payout in event of major fuel spill.

Every policy I brokered came with a $1 mil (ish) cleanup endorsement. Both hull and liability policies had about the same amount.
