I grew up boating. My parents had, and still have, a sailboat.

My first boat was a 12' aluminum fishing boat, and hand-me down from my father. I remember shopping for motors and he picked out a brand new 4hp Johnson for me. The freedom was astonishing, I lived in that boat on weekends; I launched it early in spring, often breaking through the shoreline ice to get to open water.

Got my first sailboat, a Prindle 16 cat, ~21 YO. My friends all had cats. We had a blast. Then one of us got a big boat and the rest of us saw how comfortable, dry, and warm our buddy was, and so we aged quickly, grew up, and got big boats.

My current sailboat was 4 YO when I bought it. The seller got a new wife, and she didn't like the boat. He had tears in his eyes when it sold. That was 23 years ago. I don't have the same wife as then, I doubt he does either. But I have the boat.

A few years ago I had to chance to get a AVON 310 RIB w/ 15hp. I love that boat, absolutely love it. That's coming from a 11' Achilles with a 9.5hp. Yes, it's heavy, but it's fast and dry. It's good enough we use it for day tripping, leaving the sailboat at anchor.

We also have iceboats. And kayaks. I almost bought a Hobie 17 last year to rekindle the cat sailing of my youth, but figured I have enough maintenance items.

Alas, my little one really is tired of sleeping on the settee. She wants her own cabin, and I can't blame her. So we keep looking for the perfect boat- which to me is the Beneteau 430; of course, we want a quality boat at a very reasonable price, so we're still looking. We should just get a B440 and be done with it, but I so love everything about the 430.

I've been fortunate to have B'Shert for 17 years ... so far.

My first boat was a 14' Dolphin SR lateen rigged board boat similar to a Sunfish. I was 20.

B'Shert was 11 years old when I bought her. I was 52. Can't believe how my years go by.

I sometimes think about a motor sailer or even a trawler with a sailing dinghy, but I know I'm just tire kicking. B'Shert does everything I need her to do, I know her intimately and she is paid for.

We have owed our current boat since August 2015. A 1977 Bristol 29.9
1st boat was a 1978 Bristol corsair 24.7, total of five years and change with our own boats.
We are 47 and 57.
Both new to us.
Sail boats.
Not likely to buy another boat. This one is paid for, and we have done a fair bit of work getting her ready to cruise full time. Retiring in three years and casting off the lines.

We have owned our 1983 Aloha 34 for 3 years! It was our second boat (I suppose when I say we here I am actually referring to my boyfriend since technically it's his boat). Our first boat was a 22ft'r. He had it for 2-3yrs and I got to enjoy it with him for a year before we bought our Aloha. We will never get another boat, this is the one. It's perfect sized and we have put so much work into it, it's better than new! We were 26 when we bought our current boat, and 29 now. He bought the first boat around 24, and I joined in around 25, we have been dating 4 years. I joke that instead of a ring to prove his commitment he bought me a boat lol hey costs less than your average wedding these days! I'd much rather see the world!

Why not. Because my father had a 1982 mango. And we're my brother and I learned to sail from 82 to 98. And it's always been my dream boat.

My current boat owned for 10 years S/O 371
First sail boat 17' converted ships lifeboat jointly owned. Sailed all over the Irish sea. ( Gave it away)
Second Colvic 26 sailor built from bare hull owned 5 years Sold at a profit and bought the Endurance hull/deck.
Third Peter Ibold design Endurance 37 built from bare hull owned 18 years. Sold half for a profit then the S/O.
Currently building 40' x 14' steel barge (Motor) but still have my S/O in Greece.
I could only own a decent size boat if I built it myself. I owned 2 Feeling 296s and Managed 6 various other charter boats. Gibsea, Jeanneau, Colvic, and 2 Benys.

We have owned our current yacht for 15 years. She was not our first boat. The yacht that preceded her we owned for 26 years. She was not our first boat either. As for the rest, none of your Bee's Wax.
