Re: Any El Niño preparations

Sillycone belongs in boobs not boats. If you must use it, get marine or commercial variety that is not acid cured. In no circumstance use the home construction stuff that you find in hardware stores. Beckson and a few other hardware manufacturers use a plastic that is degraded by polysulfide and polyurethane sealant. If you don't have that kind of plastic, don't use sillycone. Personally haven't found any marine gear made out of plastic that is affected by the Poly sealants except the Beckson ports.

If you are in French Polynesia and/or other areas to the West might want to pick your hidey hole well in advance as tropical storms seem to be much more prevalent during fully developed El Ninos. We spent the southern summer in Moorea while an El Nino was just developing and had only one Tropical Storm pass through. The following year, with a fully developed El Nino, the area got hit by no less than 3 Cyclones (hurricanes to us northern hemisphere types)
