Given the various controversies associated with liveaboards vs property owners in
Florida, I was surprised to find about 40 Airbnb
boat rentals in the
Florida Keys and maybe another dozen elsewhere in the state.
We're talking a broad range of sailboats, powerboats, and houseboats that you can rent sometimes by the night and that are available either dockside or on a
mooring. Some are nice, some seem like they might be eyesores.
Prices range from
cheap to expensive and include either having the
boat all to yourself or just a berth/cabin on a boat that someone probably lives aboard, but they all seem to be a good value when compared to staying in a
hotel.
Some seem like obvious
charter boats looking to pick up slack when they don't have charters, some like full-time-hotel-businesses, some like private yachts sitting in a marina that owners rent out to offset their expenses.
They do not include use of the boat other than as a floating
hotel room except for what seem like circumstances where the owner is USCG licensed and an additional fee is involved.
Airbnb has been subject of controversy here in
NYC for a couple years now and I am hearing a lot of news about UBER lately. I would be interested to know what some locals think about this.
