Re: FORCE10-The 3 burner ceramic glass top range -1200 watt- with oven and - $1100 (r

I’m interested in your 240V Force 10. I have that voltage system on my boat up here in the Puget Sound. I’m trying to do some calculations on how many DC amp-hours it would take, via 12VDC/240VAC inverter to run one surface burner for 20 minutes. Do you have any idea on that? Why did YOU opt for propane over this model? Is it located in Richmond, CA?
Thank you, ~Erich

The math is dead simple.

Every cruiser should be able to do basic electrical consumption calculations

Watts are the basic units of power.
Energy is is measured in Watt hours (10 Watts for 2 hours = 20 Watt hours)
They are 1200 Watt top burners. So for 20 minutes, that will be 1200 Watts * 1/3 hours = 400 Watt hours total .

Amp Hours = Watt hours / Volts

400 Wh at 12V = 400/12 = 33.3 Amp hours. Call it 35-40 Ah on High for safety to allow for inverter etc inefficiencies.

As a WAG, they worked out how much electrickery it would use

Hi Erich,

thanks for your interest. Roughly 60 amps for 20 mins on one burner I think.
we are going for propane, as the boat changed owners before the launch and the new owner prefers propane to electric.

we are in Richmond California.

if we cannot sell the stove here we will ship it with our container when we leave for europe and try and sell it there.

let me know if I can help you with any more info. or perhaps we can talk by phone if you prefer.

Again, we see incorrect units resulting in a confusing statement.

Anyone who actually understands Amps and Amp hours would interpret "60 amps for 20 minutes" to be 20 Amp hours total. (60 Amps x 1/3 hour).

Other who don't know the difference between Amps and Amp hours would interpret that to mean 60 Amp hours total.

Neither is correct.

It will actually be 100 Amps (1200 Watts / 12 Volts) for 20 minutes, which will be about 33 Amp hours.

Hi Erich,

Yes I have checked and done the numbers. our mutual friend who has far too much time on his hands is correct. Its 33 amp hours!

which is actually less than I originally thought. which is better.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
