Re: Best luxury upgrades to add to a 30 foot boat?
I would really like a hot tub... Tough to work out.
Thought about plugging the cockpit drains, painting cockpit black and maybe a bait aerator.....

The Dashews have a small bathtub in their 83-footer.

our comfort seats are a great luxury. Fold them flat for cockpit cushions or fold them up for lounging anywhere on deck . I often sit it at the helm for comfort + !

Yea, I know... Lin and Larry do too! (Ok, well maybe it is a wash tub... But still!).
I recall seeing a cat with a well under the wheel that was designed to be flooded (even had a pump with jets)... But we are talking about sailboats here.

Good Point! A full set of Bottom Siders for the cockpit would be real nice! http://www.bottomsiders.com/

Re: Best luxury upgrades to add to a 30 foot boat?
Where are you planning to cruise and what type of cruiser are you?
Adding air/con is a rather pointless suggestion if you plan to live at anchor and have a minimalist 12v electric system.
So with the context that we largely day sail between ports, stay in marinas most of the time and we have a generator that can run all our systems:
Neccessities:
- Fridge/Freezer (need cold beer and ice cream)
- Oven
- Reliable motor
- microwave
- Comfortable bed and seating.
- Reliable anchoring system (two on rollers ready to deploy and two more for extreme situations)
Luxry:
- Air/Con (moves to neccessity if you are going to live in the humid SE during the summer)
- Generator
- Satilite TV (obviously with TV)
- BBQ Grill
- Seperate Shower Stall

I know a few people on the forum have had bean-bag chairs and raved about them..

CarlF laid it out nicely - Rocna anchor by itself not a luxury item. Enabling a good night's sleep adds it to the luxe list.

For coastal & inland cruisers AIS Boat Beacon on your iPad, iPhone or Android gives you quasi-AIS (see and be seen) in busy harbors where you need it most. Requires a data connection. I have it on two devices for redundancy. It is no help 25 miles off the coast. Not quite as advanced as the installed Class B transponder but meeting 90% of the need for 2% of the price can't be ignored.
Install the app and register at Boat US, $10.
Knowing ahead of time that a 100+ foot DEP boat will round the tight, blind corner on the flood at Hell Gate, Priceless.

The AIS boat beacon app does NOT make you show up on other AIS receivers/transponders. It only makes you show up on other Internet fed apps.
