Haul out & dry storage east coast Oz

Hi all

I'm getting a few quotes to store a 32ft boat out of the water for a month. They're ranging from $1400 to $1800. It's unbelievable. Is anyone able to recommend some place which is actually fair? Anywhere between Sydney and Brisbane is fine.

Hi I used Oyster Cove Marina at the back of Port Stephens to pull out my 50' cat this year, it's a mainly do it yourself yard but cheap.you will need high tide to get in there.

For such a short period dry storage will always be dear. Why not just put her into a marina berth? Lots cheaper, no lift in and out, etc.

That may be what I end up doing. I'm not used to Oz pricing, I've been keeping the boat in the States for too long & enjoying their reasonable boating costs. Cove looks promising though.

I need a lift out to make some repairs, replace a thru-hull, etc, so I thought since I need to be away from the boat for Oct, I may as well leave her out of the water while I'm away...

Ahaa... that changes the math somewhat!

FWIW, slipping is WAY less expensive in Tasmania in case you were considering a cruise in that direction. We've been doing that whenever possible for years. Not too many places for hard stand storage, though.

Good luck... With our 7'2" draft it takes a big spring tide for us to get to the Oyster Cove slipway... you are likely to have less of an issue!

I would have thought an extended haul out (maybe a week) followed by a marina berth would have been the most economical, especially if yous end up being away from the boat for a while.

In the grand scheme of things in Oz $1400 (including haul & splash) is not that expensive. For a convenient place the savings could outweigh the costs.

That said we were in Yamba last year and the haulout was not exactly buzzing and there were a few boats there that didn't move. They may give a good price.

And if you just want to come out on a weekend for repairs I've found Noakes to be quite co-operative. Do tie up details there first.

I thought about leaving the boat on the hard over last summer and actually got the lowest quote from Tin Can Bay but we ran out of time and stopped in Mooloolaba.

Big mistake. Mooloolaba has to be the most comfortable place to stop on all of the east coast. I think we're developing "marina fever".

$1400/month is completely unreasonable in any and all circumstances. I could rant on about this for days.

I will never long-term own a boat in Australia, even if I were rich beyond imagination, purely on principle. My next boats if in Oz will be prepped on private property, and only launched for the duration of its intended voyage(s).

Anyway I don't want to start ranting, and appreciate everyone's input.

Tasmania is definitely the last bastion of sanity. I love it down there.
