Acquiring residency and working/doing business in Belize is a huge PITA....and it never ends (been there done that). Unless of course, as suggested, you have an Internet based biz that actually does no business in Belize...then its less of a pain. If you just want to retire there (no work, no biz) then its much easier.

Panama has VERY favorable immigration policies now, but there is a presidential election coming up in May so better move fast.

Guatemala is a very easy place. No one really gives a crap what you do. Plenty of foreigners working illegally (not that I condone that, but its common). Residency is easy, but I also have friends who've been here for decades on a tourist visa (with under the table extensions...not technically legal, but it works). Do what you want...if you piss off the wrong people they kill you... Dead Simple.

Re extradition. For legal residency, all countries in Central America require a background check and all have close relationships with the USA. But, extradition is really only used for big fish. Plenty of gringos down here who would prefer not to be found...just not likely here on legally residency. I know of a few who've purchased passports because they can no longer travel on their home country passport without risking going to jail.

I really like Nicaragua too, but don't know their residency policies. Similar to other CA-4 countries I expect.

G'day, Mates. Dual citizen here in New Zealand, one of the better decisions I made in my life. New Zealand does have extradition treaties with many countries, but Kim Dot Com is still winning at the moment with his paticular situation. Pretty easy to start living here at least 6 months of the year on just visitor visas, as many people on cruising yachts do. All the best. Cheers. P.S. Love Cuba, but would not want to make myself in anyway subject to their laws. Would definately have to renounce my USA citizenship. If you are not a USA, or plan to travel thru the USA, then should not be as much of problem.

Not a practical sequence. If you renounce USA citizenship first and are not a citizen of anywhere....impossible to travel without a passport from somewhere.

Yes I explained poorly. Decide where you want to call a residence and if it feels good break ties with your original country.
This applies to any country any direction.
Just don't see how you can quit and not quit a national reponsibilty and expect to been then treated as a foreigner in your original country.
