Wood Treatment

I have been researching the most recommended and "best" treatments for outside wood, teak, on sailboats. I came across some posts in the early 2000s indicating a mixture of WD 40 and Linseed oil applied to teak. I have not been able to locate a follow up posting reporting on the success of that application. Does anyone know how the WD 40 and Linseed oil worked replacing varnish, teak oil, or other wood applications?

Re: Wood Treatment

Is this the thread you are referring to?

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f55/cetol-or-wood-oil-5518.htm

or maybe this?

https://forums.sailboatowners.com/in...ht-work.82208/

I've tried various products on my teak handrails and I would not consider anything but Cetol these days.

Re: Wood Treatment

coopec43,

Yes, I have seen those threads and they were the reason for this thread of inquiry. I had not seen any follow up evaluation of the WD40 application and have been curious.

Last month I applied Cetol to the wood of my Wellington 47 in El Salvador. It was easy to apply and I am pleased with its appearance. I'm curious to see how long it lasts in the heat, sun and rain at Costa del Sol.

I'm preparing the wood on my Hunter 27 here in South Dakota and have been curious about other applications.

Thanks for your input.

Roger
