Where To Shop

I am looking for web sites and catalogs that compete with West Marine. I need more selection.

So far, I have dealt with the following with satisfaction:

Landfall Navigation http://www.landfallnavigation.com/

Defender Industries http://www.defender.com/

Torresen Marine http://www.torresen.com/

Jamestown Distributors http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/

Go2Marine.com

Garhauer Marine Hardware http://garhauermarine.com/

TrailerSailor.com (I believe that this is a derivative of SailboatOwners.com that Gord posted about below)

and probably some others that I don't recall right now. Not all of these are full-line chandleries, like West Marine, but most have their special niche market which they serve very well.

I have not yet had an opportunity to purchase from any of the following, but haven't heard anything bad about any of them.

The new Sailnet.com (or their new parent, marine.com)

Hamilton Marine http://www.hamiltonmarine.com/

pyacht.com

RiggingOnly.com

MauriProSailing.com

Layline http://www.layline.com/

depends on what you want

For example Solar panels. WM and others are way over priced. I hunted the Home and Commercial PV sites and saved almost 50% on my solar installation for the same panels that are purchased from a marine vendor

I'll throw another one out for folks looking for electronics.

http://www.BrokenLegDave.com

If you need a few items and pool them you can ask for a special bid and if you say you'll buy right away you can always get another 5% off the a pretty decent price. OK, the name of the web site is a bit lame<g>. I have bought a few things from Dave and he is a good seller. I even had to return a defective RAM mic and that was delt with quickly. Dave is in NJ.

For east coast pre made rigging or just plain rope:

http://www.layline.com

Located in NC. The sales people know sailing rigging and can help if you need it but the rope prices are OK for all types of rope. They sell them all.

Not to be condescending, but if you do a net search for the item you're looking for you'll literally get the world's souces listed.

Hello Captain

Always good to access the collective experience of the board. I have found www.getfeetwet.com to be a good source for refurbished GPS / navigation stuff. Recently I found Products from Milltech Marine and I used them for my AIS set-up.
