Removing the Trim on Starboard Bulkhead

I'd like to reuse the trim on a new starboard bulkhead. It looks like it's glued on with a few brads to hold it in place. It comes in sections. Picture below.
Any suggestions?

My woodshop teacher always said the nails (brads) are just to hold it until the glue dries. You may be able to get some off with a lot of effort, might try steaming the glue. Otherwise replacements are available from Whitecap or Seateak.

Re: Removing the Trim on Starboard Bulkhead

While working on some repairs on my boat I used a block of soft wood held against the lip on the trim, and tapped with a hammer. And also slowly worked it with a chisel or similar tool.

I had probably a 75% success rate getting them off undamaged. The glue is the issue, the barbs pop out easily.

Re: Removing the Trim on Starboard Bulkhead

Feel free to ignore as this isn't really answering your question, but why are you replacing it? It looks in decent shape in the picture. It also looks very similar to the bulkhead/chainplate setup on my old C36, so I'm suspecting you are replacing due to some rot just below where the chainplate passes through the deck. If this is the case, and the area of rot isn't huge, it's unlikely you need to replace the entire bulkhead.

Mark and cut out a rectangle a little larger than the rotted area and pop in some new marine plywood cut to the same dims. You could epoxy it in place or add a bridge plate on the backside that looks to be inside a storage compartment. Cosmetically, you could play around with stains or oils on some scrap ply to roughly color match the existing bulkhead.
