Valuable! Thanks. I'm hoping to make this pretty conservative, so that I make damn sure I (and others?) don't get stuck in a "project boat" without the means to finish it.

Thanks! I'm going to use some of that.
That comment on spares hit home... I need to rethink that number.

Re: "Necessary" Cruising Equipment Costs?
Also, I second Beth's book. A great resource.

I guess I just don't understand what you're trying to do. I will keep a detailed list of everything I purchase and install in my thread "Caliber 40 Outfit" in the electronics forum, if that is any help.

If you post that, I'll read it, as I'm trying to figure out the purchase vs refit questions.

Re: "Necessary" Cruising Equipment Costs?
I'll have it all posted within the next few weeks. Sailing the boat from Maryland to NC on the 10th and then starting the refit ASAP.

Also you don't mention a generator. I don't have one but do have a Honda 2000. Haven't really used it yet. From what I have seen/heard I get the impression the small diesel gen sets are costly and prone to failure. With all the power concerns you have I'd have a Honda.

Re: "Necessary" Cruising Equipment Costs?
Don't want to thread jack, but yes. I wanted to get the boat further south than Annapolis/Deltaville. I am registering the vessel in North Carolina as well, so it just made more sense.

Re: "Necessary" Cruising Equipment Costs?
As I mentioned, I got a couple emails about boats, their costs, and the costs to outfit them. So, rather than keep replying individually, I made a post outlining the subject that I can just refer people to.
Hope it's helpful, some of you contributed (thanks) - you can find it here: Cruising Equipment Costs
