Lewmar porthole leaks...suggestions?

some of our "portlights" are leaking. we tried cleaning the glass and the gasket, and that helped in two cases, but there are still leaks. any ideas? the boat is a 2001 beneteau 381. hatches are fine.
thanks
mk

Where are they leaking? gasket? around the frame? thru the glass seal?

looks to me like the bottom of the gasket where the glass can't quite get tight enough. the handles seem to work just fine...i think.

Ahh, yes, that happens... are there screws to adjust the upper hinges tighter? Seems odd they would leak at the bottom. that's where you can progressively tighten the handles right? There are so many different model of portlites hard to say...

Re: Lewmar porthole leaks...suggestions?

One of our skippers found that when he sealed the horizontal joint in the outside frames his leaks stopped. If, that is, you have that model port.

This is such a recurring questions (thanks to Lewmar's great construction details) that you may actually have more luck in Googling your question, since there have been literally thousands of this same question asked and answered on many, many boating forums. You will be surprised at the volume of the answers.

Good luck.
